If the iPhone Software has a roadmap, why can’t it find Canada? We’re like the second biggest country in the world.

Canada is big find it steve

Lo-5,

Mostly Lisa

PS. The Green Arrow is Vancouver, where I am. Feel free to send the first Canadian iPhone there. Much Love.

Leopard sucksbollocks

I thought that the latest OSX update, 10.5.2 would fix my whoas with Leopard. Not. so. much. Safari, iChat, iMovie crashes are still plentiful, as well as complete system hangs. And yesterday my Mac Pro woke up from an hour long sleep with this lovely multilingual message plastered on it’s screen:

Mac Error message

Now granted I push my Macs to the brink with all the media stuff I’ve got constantly churning away, but seriously, if Safari crashes one more time, I might… uh… write Steve an angry note? uh… use the Leopard disc as a frisbee? uh… threaten to rename this latest update 10.5.sucksbollocks? Yeah. That’s what I’ll do! And don’t try and talk me out of it. This is no flimsy threat!

I wanna know if you’re experiencing the same suckiness with Leopard. If you experience a crash or hang on Leopard, vent your frustrations in the comments below.

PS. I promise to write about something that does not suck tomorrow.

Independent Thought:
Not all vacation packages are made to suit everyone. One might have cheap hotels, and the other may be offering cheap air fare. The best one is the one that offers an economical assemblage, regardless of the fact that you will be staying at resorts or a travel lodge.

Independent Thought:
An ideal deal should take care of everything from airline tickets to the details of rental cars as well as the hotel reservations. Finding cheap flights should not be your concern.

I’ve had major problems with missing photos and album inconsistencies with my iPhoto ‘06 library whilst running Tiger, but since moving to iLife ‘08 on Leopard thing have been working quite well. Until today.

iPhoto black exclamation screen of death

This black exclamation screen made me say, “Ack!” This is what happened.

I had three event albums: x, y, & z.

1. I moved 30 photos from event album from album x into album y.
2. I renamed album x with the title of album y.
3. I then merged event album y event into event album z.
4. 6 photos originally from event x are giving me the screen of death.

A spotlight search reveals that these photos are located in album x and when I go into the edit mode the photos appear. I thought that if I reverted to the original photo in edit mode, iPhoto would relink the thumbnail of the missing photo to the image file. But now when I click on the thumbnail, I get a squished, horizontal photo:

revert to original horizontal squishy photo

Besides being really annoying, this photo makes me look fat. *puts down tub of ice cream* Ok, well I’m off to go read the mac forums. I’ll let you know if I figure it out. I wish there was a simple way of relinking iPhoto to the actual image like you can with video clips in FCP. I really don’t want to rebuild my iPhoto database.

If you are smart and know the answer, please let me know. If you are not smart and just want to share in my iPhoto library misery, please feel free to post me comforting messages.

Wired

I’m guess I”m pretty wired. I’m probably the most wired person I know. So I’m probably the most wired person you know cuz I have over 200 friends on facebook (and I know at least 10 of them in real life). Yeah whatever, I guess you could say I’m pretty popular.

Being wired means being connected to a something bigger and better, someone who knows everything the world has to offer like Wikipedia. What? Wikipedia isn’t one person? Whatever.

The point is wired things > wireless things. Wait? That’s not true. Wireless things are way better. In fact, I hate wires and cables and plugs. Just look at them all. I’m practically swimming in the things. I’ve lost my momentum now. I’m not even making sense.

What was the point again?

I’m popular?
No, not that.
I’m good looking?
Well, that’s obvious, but not the point of this post.
Making myself look cooler by bragging about how many gadgets/gear/puters I have?
Closer.
And cuz I spent all my money on gadgets/gear/puters, I can’t afford to go to Macworld and that makes me feel left out and kinda lonely to be honest.

Now it’s all coming out. Buck up! There’s more to life than seeing Stevie J’s keynote live.
There is?
No, I was lying to make you feel better.

Mostly Lisa’s Favourite Top Gear:

  1. My MB. It’s ace. I love it. I’d choose it over a MBP any day.

  2. My Canon Rebel Xti or D400. This SLR has literally changed my life. I got it last November and started shooting for both pleasure and for my multimedia company guided by photo manuals and Strobist. The day I got paid for taking photos was a beautiful day. That’s when I thought, “You can get paid for doing something this cool, seriously??”

  3. My Canon 50mm f1.4 lens. I am passionate about this lens. It truly makes *magic* happen.

  4. My 2 Canon HV20 Digital Camcorders. The bread and butter of my business. It has been an excellent camera. It’s portable, HD picture quality is great, and the 24p mode is l33tne$$.

What are your favourite gadgets? I will accept all comments. Even those with PC-based answers. I’m that open in my love of gadgets. I will now lie back on my ibook pillow, put bjork on, and stare blankly into space transcending time. Huh? My point exactly.

I’m taking the red eye to London tomorrow via Heathrow. I’m very happy to be traveling with British Airways this time. They offer online checking service which allows you to pick your seat 24 hours before your flight. So I managed to nab a coveted over-the-wing/extra legroom/fire exit row seat. Yippee. My unbruised knees are already thanking me.

I am planning all sorts of fun things this trip, the most nerdy fun being my planned trip to the Regent St. Apple Store in London. It’s the biggest Apple store in the whole wide world and I’m gonna get a new iPaaaad as a belated birthday present from Tom and finally get my greedy Canadian hands on an iPhone. Just fondle it for a while. It’s will be difficult parting with it, but at least I will have shared an iMoment with one.

I’ll keep you up to date with my adventures whilst in England. You never know what Mostly Lisa might get up to…. Here are some videos from my last trip to put you in the British spirit!

No iphones in Canada this-is-not-an-iphone-2

Bet all you posh British folks are feeling well pleased with yourselves. Pleased as punch, aren’t you? Cuing up at the Regent Street Apple Store, moments away from smudging your fish and chip and egg and marmite crispy fingers all over a shiny new iPhone… Well I’m sooooooooo happy for you.

So is this Mounty. If he had an iPhone, perhaps he would have been able to save Mantook the beaver, who was injured in a tragic igloo cave-in.

iPhoneless Canadian Mounty

I leave you with this sad self-portrait of me and my crappy Nokia z-they-don’t-even-make-this-model-anymore Phone. Think aboot that, Nikf and Graham and Nathan, and feel just a tad guilty for the iPhoneless Canadian girl.
