Mostly Lisa's Vector Challenge: Canadian Things

Vectorama is a monthly design/illustration competition on MostlyLisa.com. Last month, the penguin themed illustration competition was so chill, it was ace! Ninja vs Penguin pwnd the other competitors with her uber stealth penguins.

This month’s theme is Canadian Things! Things like: Hockey, maple syrup, Mounties, mountains, moose, beavers, snow plows, ice, and famous Canadian people, like Avril Lavigne. Feel free to exploit any Canadian stereotype you like. I welcome your ridicule.

Congratulations to our new Champ: Emily Wong of Ninja vs Penguin. Her ninja penguin was certainly a hit. How can you not love a ninja penguin? Impossible I think.

I loved all the entries with all my heart and I’ll give all the designers some link love (right after this stawberry daiquiri) and can’t wait til next month to see what everyone will create. (and I will extend next month’s competition for a few weeks so busy designer peeps can have some time to create uber vectors.

Thanks to everyone that voted. There was some serious smack talking going on… It was a little scary at times, but I guess the pursuit of vector glory brings out all kinds of craziness.

PS. Saw the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza yesterday. Was seriously cool. I’ll post some picts later. Right now I’m heading to the beach to do some snorkeling and frolicking in the crystal clear waters. Don’t feel jealous, I’m taking loads of photos and videos so you can all feel like you were here…. but you weren’t so I guess it will still suck for you. I could photoshop you in?

Vectorama Challenge Part Vector Part Penguin

Vectorama is a monthly design competition on MostlyLisa.com. The First Annual Vectorama was held last month and the results were superwikkidawesome. 12 fantastic designers battled it out with one goal in mind: Vector Sized Glory! The winner was Sway Media and he claimed his ad space with true iPirate gusto and tried to auction off his winning adspace to the highest bidder. Savvy.

This month’s Vectorama Challenge will not be easy. But, I’m opening it up to include Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks, so you have the tools to create the most awesome Penguin Themed Illustration ever! That’s right. Penguins.

Here are the rules:

  1. You must use Illustrator, Photoshop or Fireworks.
  2. Your design must include at least one penguin.
  3. You must include some kind of text that encapsulates the meaning of your illustration or just makes it ridiculous or funny or all three.
  4. Your design must not scare small children or warp the minds of impressionable youth (for some reason a lot of teenage boys visit my site…hmmm)

What you win:

  1. Vector Sized Glory!!!
  2. A coveted adspace on my sidebar which will display your winning design and link to your website for one month.
  3. A whole lotta link l0v3!

**Send your 500×300 entries to mostlylisa *at* gmail *dot* com. You have until Sunday, April 13th at midnight (-8 GMT) to get your entries to me.**

Congratulations to all that entered this most esteemed of Illustrator competitions. I loved each and every one of your entries. To those who didn’t win, you will have the chance to battle again next month in a new challenge. A bigger and better challenge to test your skills and will power to turn off the Xbox and do something productive with your time.

If you have a contest idea contact me and maybe, just maybe your idea won’t totally suck and I’ll put it on my blog.

To Vector-sized Glory! Hizzah Hizzah!

Independent Thought:
For last minute travel option, do not look for cheap airline tickets or a cheap hotel individually. Try to pick something like an all inclusive resorts deal. Thinking about options like to travel by train are not right for this time.

Oh boy, the Vectorama contest heating up. I must say it’s the most inspirational fun time i’ve had in some time. I’ve got a sweet Viking themed video to announce the winner tomorrow. I’m just gonna give you peeps a little more time to break some of the ties. Remember to vote if you haven’t.

In other news, I did not go to SxSW. I stayed at home and had a private dance party with my iTunes hallucinogenic visualizer and then ate the remainder of my M&S biscuits that I brought back from the UK. So, obviously I did not have an awesome time at the Bigg Digg Shindig with Kevin Rose. I thought since I was one of his 12653 pownce fans, we had some kind of special connection. I guess he thought otherwise.

Oh whoops, I think I just accidentally delete this week’s diggnation podcast. Oops. I’m not bitter or anything. That’s a lie. I am bitter and spiteful and jealous of all their fun stories, networking ops, uber parties, and schwag. Why don’t you just cut down more trees and displace entire colonies of squirrels to make more SxSW schwag?

Best not to leave on such a bitter note. Point taken. According to lastfm, I’m really digging Andrew Bird this week. His music is ace. Check him out.

Thanks to the uber illustrator masters who entered their sweet Vectorama. I guess they’re pretty good. But still, take a quick look at my spider/caterpillar design, before you go choosing the winner. I mean this Vector carries a powerful message.

Who do you think should win? Leave a comment below and let me know who you think should win the accolades of the first Mostly Lisa Vectorama champion!

Vectorama Vectorama!!

I’ve already received some uber design entries for the First Annual Mostly Lisa Illustrator Vectorama Contest. In fact, I’ve almost snorted milk out of my nose because of one of the entries.

But I have to admit, nothing really holds a candle to my 5 legged spider. Oh he’s cunning that one. Well, he really has to be, with only 5 legs to scuttle aboot.

So get you’re act together! Open Illustrator and get your Adobe-on. You have until Sunday, March 9th at midnight (-8 GMT) to get your entries to me:
mostlylisa *at* gmail *dot* com.

Mostly Lisa’s Illustrator Vectorama Entry Rules:

  1. You must use Illustrator (obviously)
  2. Your design must not scare small children or warp the minds of impressionable youth
  3. You must include some kind of text that encapsulates the meaning of your illustration

The Vector-sized glory and a spot on my advertising gold mine of a sidebar could be yours. It’s only a few clicks away.
